”A New Chapter In My Life Has Begun Before The Last One Could End”

The King (2019), guides us through the life of Prince Hal who, son of King Henry IV, turns from drunken teenager to England’s next king all within the space of a few months.
Written by David Michod and Joel Edgerton and Directed by David Michod, the film was a visceral and gritty look into how a young prince must over come palace politics, the war his father has left behind and coming to terms with his own past all whilst protecting the country he’s been left to protect, England.

Playing Prince Hal/King Henry V is the upcoming and talented Timothée Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name, Beautiful Boy) and honestly for me the casting couldn’t have been more perfect. Chalamet is a force to be reckoned with in this film and gives one of his best performances to date. Being 23 himself makes this casting so perfect as he too will understand and appreciate how hard it must have been for Prince Hal once his father passed away and leaving him behind all these responsibility‘s and negativity he created and only having his fathers peers to help him on his journey.
As I said before, Chalamet is a force to be reckoned with and I can see him being called up for an Oscar nomination next year for how strong his acting was in this. I honestly forgot I was watching Timothée and slowly believed it was Prince Hal and for me that deserves an nomination. There’s a certain scene in the movie which he gives a motivational speech before a massive battle and it blew me away with how intense he went and truly made that scene all the more hard hitting.

The film starts off slow but grips you enough to continue watching it but really finds its footing when the war between England Vs France is announced and are greeted by the Dauphin Of France, Louis, played by one of my fave actors currently Robert Patterson (Good Time, High Life).
Patterson gives us a performance I am yet to see from him. His french accent was particularly on point and I found his character rather amusing yet intimidating, especially when King Henry V and Louis meet for the first time and how he laughs about Henry V genitalia.

To Conclude.....
The King (2019) takes us on this journey which for the most part keeps us entertained enough to witness the life of King Henry V and his struggle with new responsibility's and overcoming his own personal demons from his past. With it‘s stunning cinematography that would make anyone want to keel over and bend one knee, it surely makes an impact after your viewing.
Chalamet is coming for that Oscar nomination and no one can stop him with his powerhouse performance as King Henry V.
The King is now available on Netflix worldwide.
