The 76th Annual Golden Globe Awards took place last night (Sunday 6th January 2019) and was met with some unexpected twists and turns with Bohemian Rhapsody taking the Best Motion Picture for Drama.
The biopic won 2 awards last night with Rami Malek winning Best Actor In A Motion Picture-Drama and also scooping Best Motion Picture for Drama. I can't help but feel that it should have been nominated in the Musical/Comedy category but here we are. With this film winning Best Drama means it could be a massive turning point in the run up to the Oscars.
I personally thought Bohemian Rhapsody wasn't very good and it could have been a lot better and was directed too safe and lacked the style of Queen. Queen was all about being different and the film just doesn't do that. With that being said Rami Malek was very good in this and was the only thing that saved this movie from flopping big time, especially in the last 25 min Live Aid scene.

Other big winners of the night was Green Book which scooped up 3 awards including Best Musical/Comedy, Best Supporting Actor and Best Screenplay. This was a big surprise as it was up against films like The Favourite, Roma and Vice. This could again be a massive turning point in the run up to the Oscars. I thought the film was good and it did have funny moments in but when it's up agianst films like The Favourite it simply shouldn't have won. I can deal with it winning best Supporting Actor but the other two category's it simply shouldn't have won.

On a lighter note Justin Hurwitz (First Man) finally won an award for Best Original Score which is fantastic. First Man deserves more so much more recognition as it's draw-droppingly emotional and so technically produced its a shame it has been overlooked. I'm hoping it gets some more nominations at the Oscars and the BAFTA's.

A Star Is Born did win something last night for Best Original Song with "Shallow" performed by Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper. Seeing Gaga get emotional for winning was heartwarming and fully deserved as it is a brillaintly made song, especially being Bradley Cooper's singing debut too. I am unsure how well it will perform at the Oscars but I have full faith it will win Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Actress with also the hope that Sam Elliot gets nominated for Best Supporting Actor but I doubt he will and he will be overlooked.

Olivia Coleman won Best Actress In A Musical/Comedy for her performace as Queen Anne in Yorgos Lathimos 'The Favourite' and I'm delighted that she did. She is so amazing in that film and she really connects with her co-stars Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz to the point it was hard to choose just who should have been nominated for Best Acress out of the three

Roma was another honorable winner last night scooping 2 awards for Best Director and Best Foreign Language Film. Roma was so beautifully and technically shot it fully deserved to win both awards. Cooper just missed out to Alfonso Cuaron but I can understand why as Alfonso directed Roma expertly and he didn't let the actors and actress's know the script until shooting as he wanted raw emotions and real life reactions. This just shows how amazing and talented of a director he really is.

Lastly and I'm totally over the moon it won, Spiderman Into The Spiderverse won Best Animated Film. This film speaks volumes not just from an animated way but also in a story way, it evokes emotions that leak into the real world and inspires you to believe in yourself and that you can achieve anything you put your mind too, just like Miles Morales does in the film. I'm hoping it wins more awards to come including an Oscar and a BAFTA.
