A Modern Cluedo Masterpiece?

Knives Out (2019) is Written and Directed by Rian Johnson ( The Last Jedi, Looper). And Produced by Ram Bergman ( Don Jon, The Last Jedi).
The film tells the story of renowned novelist Harlan Thrombey, played by Christopher Plummer (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Up), is found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday. Detective Benoit Blanc, played by Daniel Craig ( Spectre, Logan Lucky), investigates which one of Thrombey’s family could have done it. Everyone’s a suspect!!!.

The Story....
I just want to start this off by personally thanking Rian Johnson for writing and producing this film, It’s such a fun and very cleverly written film that I hope gets some awards buzz around.
Knives Out (2019) WILL be one of the most fun movies you’ll watch all year and what better way to end not just this year, but this decade with what some are already calling a classic murder mystery. Seriously if you love Cluedo or anything murder mystery this film won’t disappoint you at all, it’s got everything from a story with many twists and turns to an absolutely outstanding cast that I’ll get into right now.
The story presents itself like you wouldn’t imagine, a classic murder mystery film in 2019 that actually feels like it was made all the way back in 1960 when murder mystery was the range. So the fact Johnson has created something that feels like it should have been made in 1960 is phenomenal.
The story paces itself well but there were moments where it did dip a tad but still caught my attention with the fabulous and sharp as a knife cinematography and set designs. It felt classic but yet modern, HOW DID YOU DO THAT RIAN!!! HOW!.

The Cast....
Knives Out (2019) not only impressed with its cleverly written story, but also it’s outstanding choice of actors and actresses.
We have Chris Evans (SnowPiercer, Captain America: First Avenger) who plays Thrombery’s grandson Ransom Drysdale. Playing Ransom Drysdale’s parents, Linda & Richard Drysdale, we have Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween, Freaky Friday) and Don Johnson (Django Unchained, Dragged Across Concrete). Linda is Harlan Thrombey‘s daughter so eyes are on her wether she killed her father for his money. I must say Jamie Lee Curtis was fabulous as ever and for me I’ve only ever seen her in the Halloween series so was lovely seeing her on this new and refreshing project where she put on a performance I was yet to see from her.
Then we move onto Walt Thrombey, Played by Michael Shannon (The Shape Of Water, Man Of Steel), Harlan Thrombey’s son and his family. Playing Walt’s son Jacob Thrombey is Jaeden Martell (IT: Chapter Two, The Book Of Henry) and playing Walt’s wife and Jacobs mother Donna Thrombey is Riki Lindhome (Under The Silver Lake, The Lego Batman Movie). Jaeden doesn’t have much to play in this film but he sure has a bright future ahead of him, especially being in this years IT: Chapter Two (2019).
Then we have Joni Thrombey, Played by Toni Collette (Hereditary, Velvet Buzzsaw) and playing her daughter Meg Thrombey is Katherine Langford ( Love Simon, 13 Reasons Why). I actually thought when watching this that Toni Collette had one of the strongest performances among the whole family, she excelled and more and was actually quite funny and expressive with her face actions. She just is perfect in everything she’s in and I absolutely love her as an actress.
Finally we get onto the lovely and infectious Marta Cabrea, Played by the gorgeous Ana De Armas (Blade Runner 2049, Knock Knock), who is the nurse employed by Harlan Thrombey to look after him and give him his medication and tells her things about the family.
Now that we have got through the family (I know there’s a lot of them), my favourite performance‘s came from Daniel Craig, Ana De Armas and Chris Evans as they just stole the film for me. Craig just brings something that we haven’t seen much of him outside of his Bond films, which is a humorous side as he’s always needing to be serious for his Bond role. Between his comedic performance in this and Lucky Logan (2017), he’s really shaping up to become an all round brilliant actor who no matter what is thrown at him he will smash it out the park on every occasion.
Evan’s was particularly humorous in this playing the grandson with a massive chip in his shoulder, very different from how we are use to seeing Evans as Marvel’s Captain America. There was something about him in this that made him shine and stand out, he had this very bad boy vibe about him and the way he just made fun of the whole family was something else. Especially his “Eat Shit” line.

To Conclude.....
Knives Out (2019) will be one, if not THE funnest cinema experience you’ll have this year and with outstanding performances from Daniel Craig, Chris Evans and Ana De Armas, why wouldn’t you check out this sleek and classic (but modern) murder mystery adventures that will make you question everyone at any given time and have you on the edge of your seat in suspense or off your seat rolling on the floor laughing, or as the kids say ROFL.
