“It’s definitely not a good time to be a Nazi.”

JoJo Rabbit (2020) is the reimagining of Nazi Germany through the eyes of a young 10 year old boy named JoJo, whose been brainwashed into the Hitler Revolution, with Hitler as his imaginary friend.
Written and Directed by Taika Waititi (Thor Ragnarok, What We Do In The Shadows) I must say Waititi’s comedic genius comes into fully play with this film and is a barrel of laughs from start to finish, but adds the realism of life in a Nazi Germany during World War Two.

The Film....
JoJo Rabbit (2020) is probably one of the funniest films you’ll watch all year and looking at the films releasing this year I’m struggling to see any that will be as funny as JoJo Rabbit.
Opening with JoJo, Played by Roman Griffin Davis making his acting debut, he’s talking to himself in the mirror with a certain well-known figure lurking in the background, Adolf Hitler, Played by Taika Waititi.
The movie as a whole should be viewed as a parody of that era of history and not to be taken too seriously as Waititi has wrote it to be comical but also brings it back to reality and mixes in life as a Jew living in a Nazi controlled town with the harsh consequences of those who are found out.
I haven’t laughed this much since last years Little Monsters (2019) and the majority of the jokes land well and made me laugh quite a bit, some don’t but everyone’s humour is different. There’s a joke in particular about what Rabbis do with a certain male genitalia and I had to control my laugher many minutes after the joke had been said, you’ll know the joke when you get to it.
I touched on this before but whilst the film is mostly comedic it also mixes in the harsh reality’s of life as a Jew, with scenes of Jews that have been caught and hung because of there religious beliefs. It also shows the downfall of Hitler and honestly it’s a brilliant film to educate those of a younger audience the harsh reality’s of World War Two whilst making it enjoyable.

The Cast....
Roman Griffin Davis is brilliant in his acting debut and plays the part of JoJo very well, mixing life as a child but also the pressures that older Nazi’s put onto the younger men & women to grow up much faster than they should have.
My personal favourite and stand out performance for me however was Archie Yates, who again made his acting debut as the adorable Yorki, JoJo’s best friend. He is the most adorable and heart melting little actor and every line he said melted my heart and made me laugh, very well done Master Yates .

To Conclude....
JoJo Rabbit (2020) is a comical and educational film of a Nazi controlled Germany that will fill your heart with laughter but also sadness and proves Waititi can write and direct and use his skills to the fullest, especially comedy.
