An exclusive first look at the Steven Esteb's harrowing Hate Crime (2019).

I was given exclusive access to watch a pre-screening of what I would say is one of the most harrowing and upsetting films I've watched in my movie career yet. Hate Crime (2019) is directed by Steven Esteb and is written by Johan Tapper. The film centers around the family of Raymond, played by Jordon Salloum, who is sentenced to death for a hate crime and how his parents, played by Amy Redford (The Guitar, Professor Marston and the Wonder Woman) and Kevin Bernhardt (Medival, Smart Chase) cope. It also shows how the family, played by John Schneider (Dukes Of Hazard,Smallville) and Laura Cayouette (Django Unchained, Now You See Me) whose gay son Kevin, played by Chasen Schneider, is murdered and how they cope.

The film is hard-hitting from the get go and it propells you into the emotions you'll endure for the rest of the movie. It's more than just about what happens, It's about family truths and how some of us hide things from our parents as we know they wouldn't accept what we tell them in this day and age. Starting with some amazing and beauitful cinematography which accompanied with the music really sets a dark and somewhat sombre tone and that something bad has happened to our main characters and that they are going through a hard time.

The film is a LGBTQA must see and I can guarantee there will be some crying as it really is a hard watch into feeling included in a world that sadly still doesn't accept all types of sexuality's. I can see a lot of people being able to relate to how the characters are feeling in the sense of coming out to your parents and knowing one will be more accepting than the other.

I was unsure what was happening in the first 30 minuites of the movie and was somewhat confused as to what was really going on as it switch back and forth between the two sets of parents. When we wasn't watching Raymond's parents I though we had jumped back into the past but I was mistaken as I was actually watching Kevin's parents on there way to see Raymond be executed. After I had got past this confusion the film really picked up and I found myself weeping at certain parts of the movie.

I have to say for as much as I though Kevin Bernhardt was fabulous, especially when he is cradling one of the many beagles they own kneeling down. But the real performance that stood out to me was Amy Redford. I would absoultly love to see her in a leading horror role as she would just excell with the amount of emotion she gave to the performace as Raymonds mother. She somewhat reminded me at one point in the film of Toni Collette when she's giving that incredable speech at the dinner table.

To sum up whar I can only describe as a harrowing and intimate look into relationships with family's who have a child/children of the LGBTQA community and how sometimes coming out is harder for others and to be accepted in a world that sadly still has a problem with peoples sexuality.

Thank you to TriCoast Entertainment for allowing me to watch this film before its digital release. You can now stream Hate Crime on most VOD platforms including Amazon.
