“What You Gonna Do When They Come For You”

Bad Boys For Life (2020) continues the story of long term police partners and brothers from other mothers Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett as they unite when an Albanian mercenary, whose brother they killed, sets out to eliminate them.

The film is Written By Joe Carnahan, David Guggenheim, Anthony Tambakis and Chris Bremmer and Directed By Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.

Bad Boys For Life is surprisingly a ton of fun whilst also continuing our hero’s character arcs into middle aged life where they aren't the coolest members of the police force anymore.

The Film.....

Lets kick this off by saying how brilliant this film is, it’s very much like the first Bad Boys film only this improves and updates it and brings it into the 21st century by mixing in newer technology and more upto date departments that help aid the story and our characters.

I was afraid that this film was going to go down the route of being much like the second movie, too much going on, it being messy and just not that funny. However I was pleasantly surprised by how well written and how well paced it turned out to be and was just a fun time from start to finish.

Our characters are middle aged now and as such there body‘s aren’t what they use to be, especially Marcus who, repeatedly, states he is going to retire and put his feet up and be there for his family. They aren’t as cool and hip as they once were and there’s new kids on the block that show them how it’s done in the modern era, making for a comical moment with Mike trying to get into a club. The way the writers have carried on there character arcs has been done well and could make those who grew up watching these films relate to the two main characters.

Theres moments in this film that are cheesy but I don’t mind as it just makes the film all the more enjoyable and fun to watch. If you grew up with these films and liked them then you’ll love this film for sure.

The action in this film was well executed and I felt compelled to feel like I was the passenger in Mike’s Porsche 911 when he’s flying through the traffic, every gun fight felt brilliant and believable, especially the shootout in the Mexical Cartel Manor. Talking of that scene some of the camera angles were unique and brilliant, a moment that stands out is when Rita, Played by Paola Nunez (Power, Without Her), shoots a bad guy above her and the camera pans vertically.

I don’t have anything bad to say about the film only that it isn’t draw-droppingly amazing like Mission Impossible: Fallout (2018) is and it certainly isn’t a film defining movie for the action/comedy genre. It’s just a ton of fun.

The Cast....

For me this was one of Will Smith’s best performances in his career to date, he shows pure emotion and heart in this and you can tell how much the Bad Boy franchise means to him. You can tell how much fun he has filming these movies and it shows in this, with many emotions running through the film and him portraying each one brilliantly.

One standout performance for me was actually Vanessa Hudgens (Spring Breakers, High School Musical) who absolutely kicked ass in this film and brought a warm charm to the franchise and I hope to see her in future films if they ever decide to continue them.

To Conclude....

Bad Boys For Life (2020) is a joyous and action thrilled movie that is sure to please long time Bad Boys fans and also bring in a newer younger audience. If you just want some fun at the cinema this January then I urge you to go watch Bad Boys For Life and you won’t regret it one bit.

Now I’m going to leave you singing the Bay Boys song so it gets stuck in your head....

Bad boys, bad boys Whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do When they come for you
